No longer the "Wired Search Engine".
HotBot used to be a really cool search engine affiliated
with Wired Magazine. It was free, easy to get listed, and
provided a quick, down-and-dirty search. Plus, it was one
of the first search engines to allow web masters to put a
copy of the engine on their sites.
Things change, especially on the Internet.
Now HotBot and the HotWired network are part of the Lycos
network. HotBot's entire search and directory systems are
copies of other search engines and directories.

THE KEY:
Get spidered by Inktomi either by being patient or by paying
Inktomi to index your site.
SEARCH RESULTS:
The default search engine setting on HotBot is the HotBot
search engine, but you can choose to search Lycos, Google,
or Ask Jeeves from the HotBot site. If you use the default
setting, at the top of the search results page you will see
anywhere from one to six numbered sponsored links. The first
four of these links are provided by Overture. The next two
sponsored links are the top two bidders through Lycos' AdBuyer
program. Below those sponsored links, you will see a bold
red heading "WEB RESULTS." These are Inktomi results.
To the right of the numbered sponsored sponsored links, you
may also see text box ads which look just like Google ads.
These are the 3rd through the 6th top bidders through the
Lycos AdBuyer program.
Buying into the AdBuyer program gets your sponsored pay-per-click
links placed on both Hotbot and Lycos.
