Google - As of August 18th, the Google we've all come to know and love (and occasionally love to hate) became a publicly traded company. Early in August, Google added a new time and date stamp at the very top of their cached pages in the search results. The new information is useful because it shows you the last time the page was spidered.
Overture - Overture released a new Advertiser Handbook during late August that covers such broad topic areas as bidding strategies, tracking, and writing effective ads. This is a pretty good guide for people who are new to Overture and pay-per-click advertising in general but it doesn't cover important issues like click fraud or how to optimize your ads using negative words for better targeting or the potential dangers to your checkbook when using content match.
Ask Jeeves / Teoma - AskJeeves is Dropping its Paid Inclusion Program on September 30.
MSN - Microsoft suspended operations of their tech preview search engine results – (formerly located at techpreview.search.msn.com) – in August after doing some Alpha testing on the new engine. We can only assume a new and improved engine will be up for preview in the near future after they implement whatever changes they've got planned.
ODP / DMOZ - No changes to report for the past 30 days at ODP.
Yahoo - On August 3rd, Yahoo officially released their new Local Search Beta at http://local.yahoo.com. Frankly, it looks like a pretty good feature even in beta. Of course, the reason for the interest in Local Search is to crack the local advertising dollar nut.
How many other sites are REALLY
linking back to your site?" As many of you know, the more RELATED web sites link to yours, the better yours will perform in the search engines! If you perform a search on Google using link:http://www.yoursite.com you will notice that the numbers are MUCH lower than the same search
on Yahoo. Yahoo's reciprocal link counter is MUCH more accurate! Below I have a chart where you can click and see the difference! Young sites will naturally have just a few incoming links, where older sites may have 200+.

* = This "or here" query will locate all pages that reference your domain name, minus those within your own site, whether the reference is a link or not. This is far from perfect, though, since it will only give you a general idea of who is linking to you.
Being successful on the Internet means having people find your website and for people to find it, it has to be "visible" in the major search engines and directories. Building inbound links through reciprocal link exchanges is a simple yet very powerful website promotional tool. Using Reciprocal Links or Link Exchanges, as a means of promoting your website, product, or service can be a very effective and inexpensive way to help your website grow and succeed online. Developing quality inbound links is critical for search engine rankings!
LET'S BRAINSTORM & think of some related web sites ... I CAN HELP!
Reciprocal Links: The mutual agreement between two web sites to display the other's link somewhere on their website. Also known as a link exchange.
Link Popularity: A measure of a website's on-line visibility through the number of the links pointing to it. This is the reason why link building or link campaigns are becoming so critical for webmasters.
