WordPress – Proactive Security, Backups, Malware Prevention

WordPress web sites are becoming more and more time consuming on a weekly / daily basis to keep up with the following items:

1. Plugin Updates (Careful use of any plugin)
2. Regular Scheduled Backups (Weekly / Monthly)
3. Proactive Security Updates ( WP Security Scan)
4. Performance Optimization
5. Malware prevention / cleanup & Performance Scans ( WordFence & GravityScan)
6. Uptime Monitoring

Websites aren’t paintings that you hang up on the wall after they’re complete; they are an investment that needs to be looked after to keep the positive ROI.

With WordPress maintenance, I am pledging time to be your client’s website “bodyguard.” If anybody messes with your business, I’m going in there, guns blazing. Otherwise, you’ll sit quietly in the corner, keeping one eye shut and the other on the door.

Yes, this is different than regular ‘site maintenance’, which has been outlined in your contracts. ‘Site maintenance’ has been focused on making changes to content / images on your current pages. Changes prices, changing content, adding fresh news are all examples of your existing ‘site maintenance’ agreement. WordPress Maintenance deals with security, backups, prevention and keeping up with various plugin updates.

WordPress web sites are constantly being hacked, or rather are ATTEMPTED to be hacked on a daily basis. WordPress security is all about proactivity. You know what they say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, especially on the web. Most WP attacks initiate from Russia, China, France, India, Ukraine and the good ol’ USA.

Inbound Links

Let’s focus on ‘Inbound Links‘ this month! What are inbound links? An inbound link (also referred to as a back link) is a link on another web site that points to a web page on your site. What sort of links do you need? Links from authoritative sites are gold in Google’s eyes. What are some of the resource sites that you turn to in your own business? The more authoritative links from related web sites you have, the better your site will rank. If your competitor has 20 of these links, shoot to have 40+.

Be a resource for other sites in your business; Produce Valuable Content on a Regular Basis. If your site has quality information, other sites will include links to your site. See how it works? Be an expert in your field – Comment on business forums, publish articles, place reviews where appropriate and include a link back to your site. Some of these resources are set to ‘no-follow’ (search engines don’t follow them); Even so, the mere presence of your comments will help new people who have never heard of you find you.

Link exchange or trading links still works if done properly. ‘Reciprocal linking’ used to be a term where you would trade ANY sort of link, just to get ANY sort back. Google is smart and does not count these links.

Let’s start with your business connections – Chamber of Commerce, your product sources, your distributors, your suppliers, your local connections.  As long as they are RELATED to your business, they will be just fine!

Obtaining inbound links can be done, but it requires time and effort!
